About Me
I am a half Venezuelan, half Colombian, Canadian woman who immigrated to Canada at the age of 17 with my parents, three siblings, and knowing little to no English. My family chose to settle in Brampton - a community and people I have come to respect and love.
In 2007, I graduated from Humber College with an Early Childhood Education (ECE) diploma. Following that, I was married and worked for one year as an English Kindergarten teacher in Taiwan. Upon returning to Canada, I worked in daycare settings until the birth of our first child, at which point I became a stay-at-home mother. I am now the mother of four children currently attending Peel Public Schools.
When our youngest child was one, I began taking online university classes, and in 2021, I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Marriage and Family Studies and a TESL certificate from BYU-Idaho. I am also a qualified Family Life Educator (FLE). In September of 2021, I once again became a full-time student, pursuing a Master of Arts in Development Studies where I am also working toward a certificate in Migration and Refugee Studies. I am also involved with the Center for Research on Latin America and the Caribbean (CERLAC).
Since 2013, I have been volunteering for the PDSB in various ways: in kindergarten rooms, organizing and running a parent-led math club, assisting with the breakfast club, face painting, school council chair, secretary and treasurer, and with the Parent Involvement Committee (PIC).
Additionally, I was a Spanish Language Instructor for the PDSB’s International Languages School from September 2018 to June 2021.
